• Traveling tribute comes to courtsquare next week The “Cost of Freedom Tribute” will roll into Holly Springs next week with a helicopter escort and parade. The
Holly Springs Chamber of Commerce and the Collins-Hurdle VFW Post #5697
are hosting the tribute, which is slated to be on the courtsquare

Owners upset about cleanup By SUE WATSON Staff Writer After
supervisors had a property cleaned up at the expense of the landowner,
the owners came in to have their say about the matter at the meeting of
the board November 10. Edna Bernice Jones and her
husband Leroy said if they had known the board had an order out for
them to clear a deteriorating old store on their property on Highway
178 East, they would have cleaned it up themselves. Full Story
City police investigate break-ins Holly
Springs Police Department reported three breaking and entering
incidents and one burglary of a business for the week ending November
17. A structure in the 100 block of Walthall was
broken into on Monday, Nov. 10, according to police chief Robert
Pearson. Thieves took a Vito clarinet, two Holton trombones and one
King trombone. Officers investigated a breaking
and entering report in the 100 block of East College and another
break-in in the 200 block of East College, Thursday, Nov. 13. Some
change was reported missing from a desk drawer at the East College
structure. Officers responded to a burglary alarm in the 100 block of Clarice Drive Friday, Nov. 14. Burglars got away with $300 cash. Officers
responded to these other activities last week - no driver’s
license/expired license (4); driving while license suspended (2); no
proof of insurance (2); expired tag (2); speeding (5); careless driving
(2); improper passing (1); disturbance of a family (1); disorderly
conduct (1); petit larceny (1); and false pretenses (1).
Planning district, county get national recognition The
Northeast Mississippi Planning and Development District in Booneville
received a 2008 Innovation Award from the National Association of
Development Organizations (NADO) for its Marshall County Strategic

Byhalia to unveil 20-year plan • ‘Community and Chamber Celebration’ Thursday at The Flame After much work, Byhalia’s 20-year plan will be presented at the “Community and Chamber Celebration” on Thursday, Nov. 20. The theme for the celebration is “Pride in the Past, Faith in the Future.” Full Story
Byhalia police respond to variety of calls The Byhalia Police Department responded to 28 calls during the past week. Chief
Gary Looney released the following report on Monday, Nov. 17 – seven
alarm calls, one motor vehicle accident, six disturbances, one domestic
call, one theft, two escorts, one assist, two medical assists, one fire
and six miscellaneous calls. No arrests were reported for the week.
Patriot Performers in concert Dec. 13; reservations required On
December 13 at 6:30 p.m. the Patriot Performers will present “Songs of
the Season,” a Christmas dinner concert. The program will be at the
Kate Freeman Clark Art Gallery and will feature a variety of sacred and
secular Christmas songs for both soloists and choir. Tickets are $25. To
make a reservation please contact Marshall Academy at 662-252-3452.
Reservations are required and will not be accepted after December 3.
Space is limited, and reservations will be taken on a first come, first
served basis.
