A suspect with a California address led law enforcement agencies on a high-speed chase over two counties, Monday afternoon, according to Maj. Kelly McMillen, investigator with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department.

McMillen said the offender, driving a motorcycle, was pursued by multiple agencies beginning at a location off Young Road in Marshall County.

of Walnut Street, California, continued fleeing law enforcement to the Highway 72 area in Benton County, then down Highway 7 North back into Marshall County where he was apprehended at a location near the Marshall County Fairgrounds, McMillen said.

Officers with the Mississippi Highway Patrol, Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics and with Marshall and Benton county sheriff’s departments participated in the pursuit, he said.

At the time of the arrest, the suspect had a weapon, a handgun, and an undetermined

undetermined amount of green leafy substance believed to be marijuana, McMillen said.

Horton was arrested Monday, April 1 at about 4:20 p.m.

McMillen said the suspect had about 15 charges by the Olive Branch Police Department, two for felony fleeing and one for simple assault on a police officer. The remainder of those charges were misdemeanors, he said.

Charges by agents with the Mississippi Highway Patrol and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics were filed in Marshall County after Horton’s arrest.

They included Motor vehicle fleeing and eluding law enforcement officers, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, improper passing, not wearing a crash helmet, five speeding charges, driving on the wrong side of the road, reckless driving, no proper turn signal and careless driving, McMillen said.

Horton will also face charges in Benton County. He remained in the Marshall County jail Tuesday waiting arraignment, McMillen said.
