MA ends regular
season with win
The Marshall Academy Lady Patriots had lots of fun to wrap up the regular season.
They cruised to an 8-0 win over Columbus Christian at Steens.
The Marshall Academy Lady Patriots stormed to 6- and 11-run wins on the first day of the Class A State Softball Tournament.
The victories over Sylva-Bay Academy and Delta Academy propelled the MA girls to finals of the winners’ bracket. They were slated to battle Carroll Monday at 10 a.m. at Shiloh Park in Brandon, a rematch of the North A finals from the week before.
Hawks fall to Tigers

The Holly Springs Hawks had tried to reach a never before attained milestone on the gridiron last Friday night.
They had strung together a string of victories which included domination over county rivals and established a pre-division record of 4-1. Their only hiccup was against Northpoint Christian.
Patriots crush Tennessee rivals

Marshall Academy had an early slip-up Friday night at home but the rest of the way it was smooth sailing.
The Patriots, who fell behind 2-0 on Fayette Academy’s safety, stormed back for a 50-8 win in the Mississippi-Tennessee rivalry.

Can you believe that we are already past week number four in the NFL?
No, I am not going to be trite and ask you if you know where your favorite team is. You know I almost wrote “teams,” because for the last couple of weeks, NFL fans have been indicating a second preference when discussing a favorite team. This could be called “hedging your bet.”
Newspaper requests schedules for 2014-15 basketball season
Varsity basketball coaches in Marshall County are urged to submit their schedules for the upcoming season to The South Reporter.
The schedules can be FAXed to 662-252-3388, emailed to email@example.com or dropped off at the newspaper office, 157 South Center Street in Holly Springs.
“We appreciate your assistance in making plans for the upcoming season,” said publisher Barry Burleson. “With your help, we will continue to strive to provide the best sports coverage possible of all our schools.”
Marshall Academy sponsoring 5K/Fun Walk Oct. 11
The first annual Marshall Academy Booster Club 5K/Fun Walk will be held Saturday, Oct. 11, in Holly Springs.
Early registration, which ends October 10, is $20. Race day registration is from 7 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. and the cost is $25.
Marshall downs Marvell in jr. high action
The Marshall Academy junior high football team remained unbeaten Thursday with an easy road win at Marvell, Ark.
The Patriots put 24 points on the board in the first quarter and coasted to the 46-0 win over the Marvell Academy Eagles.
