Basketball registration begins The Holly Springs Parks and Recreation Department is accepting entry fees for the 2008 men’s and women’s basketball season. Patriots enjoy successful summer Marshall Academy played Union County’s Junior Legion team Saturday and came away with a 7-3 win to end the summer season. The game was played at Myrtle High School Ole Miss Quarterback Club plans event Ole Miss Quarterback Club will host a “Meet Coach Houston Nutt, Staff and Families” event Tuesday, July 29, at 5:30 p.m., at the Oxford Conference Center, 102 Ed Perry Blvd. Cost is $25 at the door with a catfish or chicken dinner provided. Raffle tickets are being sold for $10, for a chance to win two 50-yard-line season tickets, located in the Rebel Cub, with a parking pass at a $3,000 value. Coach Nutt is to speak at 7 p.m. and draw the winning ticket. Also the Ole Miss Quarterback Club plans bus trips to the Alabama, Arkansas and LSU games. Come join the fun and excitement. MA soccer hosting jamboree The Marshall Academy soccer team will host a pre-season jamboree Saturday. The schedule follows: • 10 a.m., Marshall vs Magnolia • 10:30, Magnolia vs Starkville • 11, Starkville vs Marshall • 11:30, Marshall vs Magnolia • 12, Magnolia vs Starkville • 12:30, Starkville vs Marshall. These will be 20-minute games. Barbecue sandwiches will be on sale at the games for lunch. The Lady Patriots, led by coach Catherine Mirante, begin the regular season Tuesday, Aug. 12, at home versus Magnolia Heights. Mt. Pleasant Lions announce sign-up for new season The Mt. Pleasant Lions youth football and cheerleading team announces registration for the 2008-09 season. All students between the ages of 7-18 years of age are eligible to participate. All students are accepted whether they attend public or private school, or are home-schooled. The registration requirements are as follows – registration form, registration fee, copy of certified birth certificate, sports physical report and copy of last report card. The registration fee for the 2008-09 season is $35 per child; this fee is non-refundable. This program allows all participants, volunteers and sponsors the opportunity to be a part of a team that is working to build a better community for everyone. “We challenge ourselves to continue building that bridge that will last for many generations,” said Kesha Collins.
