Marshall Academy sweeps Indianola Academy, dominates Strayhorn

After another impressive week from the Marshall Academy baseball team, many around the state are optimistic about their postseason chances.

The Patriots swept Indianola Academy in three games, outscoring the Colonels 33-2. More impressively, the Patriots defeated the Strayhorn Mustangs in three innings, winning 15-0 by the state’s mercy rule.

“It’s been a brutal week for our opponents,” Marshall Academy’s coach Dustin Skelton said. “I’m very impressed with my guys. It’s been one crazy year.

The team has experienced a lot of ups and downs.

The Patriots have been performing incredibly well this season.

“You’ve got a lot of moving parts. A lot of my guys play basketball or football. The good things is, I’ve had all my guys all season,” Skelton said. “We’ve been able to bond and build the camaraderie all season.”

Skelton said the team focuses on the game at hand.

“We simplify the game. We take one pitch at a time,” said Skelton.

The team has specialized in staying focused and looking at the task.

“They have really improved the game. They are focused on the task at hand. I’m very, very pleased with how my guys have responded up until this point; I mean, like I said, we’re 19 and four right now.

The Patriots will play a district game against the North Delta Green Wave on April 9 and then travel to Batesville to face the Green Wave on April 11. The game starts at 4 p.m.
